Anila Azhar
Psychologist, Director
Anila has full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society. Her career started out in educational and developmental psychology, but after a move to Melbourne and a couple of kids, Anila moved her focus to building a career in private practice. It was during her time in Melbourne, that she commenced a specialisation in eating disorders, body image disturbance, body dysmorphic disorder, and disordered eating. Anila then worked in several settings to better understand these complex illnesses, in psychiatric hospital settings, and the Butterfly Foundation — managing a team of psychologists. Today, Anila’s interests lie in working in the areas of trauma, eating disorders, and related mental health struggles — along with working with individuals from diverse communities, in the context of the perhaps unique challenges they face.
Anila is a dedicated and compassionate psychologist with a deep commitment to supporting individuals on their mental health journey. Anila’s work is influenced by evidence-based therapies and in particular by an emotion-focussed approach. Anila brings a holistic and client-centred approach to her practice, focusing on building a strong therapeutic alliance and providing personalised care to each client. Anila is passionate about creating a safe and inclusive space where clients can explore their past traumas, build resilience, and work towards healing and growth. With a warm and empathetic demeanour, Anila strives to empower her clients to overcome challenges, enhance their well-being, and live more fulfilling lives.
